Fabricator/Fitter
Job Description:
Lays out, prepares and assembles structural steel according to structural steel plans and drawings.
Duties:
Performs some or all of the following:
1. Study engineering drawings and blueprints, determines the materials required, plan the sequence of tasks to cut metal most efficiently.
2. Constructs patterns and templates as guides for layouts.
3. Layout reference points and patterns on heavy metal according to component specifications.
4. Rig, hoist and move materials within the worksite.
5. Assemble and fit metal sections and plates to form complete units of subunits using tack welding, bolting, riveting or other methods.
6. Set up and operate heavy duty metal-working machines such as break presses, shears, cutting torches, grinders and drills equipment to cut, bend, form, punch, drill or otherwise form heavy metal components. Future requirement: Computer Numerical Control (CNC) knowledge.
7. Install fabricated components in final products.
Education:
Some college/vocational or technical training.
Credentials:
Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Certificate or equivalent.

Specific Skills:

Welder (CWB Ticket)
Job Description:
Operate welding equipment to weld structural metal components/members.
Duties:
Performs some or all of the following:
1. Read and interpret blueprints and welding process specification.
2. Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas metal arc (GNAW), flux-cored arc (FCAW), shielded metal arc (SMAW).
3. Operate manual or semi-automatic flame cutting equipment.
Education:
Some college/vocational or technical training.
Credentials:
Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Certificate or equivalent.

Cutting torches, Grinders, Drills
Area of Specialization:
Structural metal or steel
Major Work Area:
Fabrication, Assembly
Fitting Welding Techniques:

Interpret welding process specifications jigs or set-ups for welding.
